Turbocharger Replacement & Installation Rules

Industry statistics reveal a alarming fact: over 40% of new or remanufactured turbochargers fail within the first 15 minutes of installation! The primary causes are improper installation techniques, dry starting (lack of initial oil pressure), and failing to cure the root cause of the original failure.

⚠️ Golden Rule: Turbos NEVER die on their own!
A turbocharger is almost always the victim of engine-side faults. Replacing a destroyed turbo without fixing a clogged DPF filter, a restricted oil feed line, or contaminated intercooler will result in immediate destruction of the new replacement unit.

Mandatory Steps During Turbo Installation

  1. Replace Oil Feed Pipe (Line): Carbon coking bakes inside old oil feed lines under high heat. Always install a BRAND NEW oil feed line (especially on 1.6 HDi / TDCi engines where internal micro-filters must be permanently removed).
  2. Change Engine Oil and Filter: Old oil contains carbon abrasive sludge and metal particles that will instantly score new journal bearings.
  3. Flush the Intercooler: If the previous turbo leaked oil or suffered wheel explosion, hundreds of milliliters of oil and sharp aluminum fragments accumulate in the intercooler. Failing to clean it will cause Diesel Runaway or engine ingestion of debris.
  4. Pre-Oil the Cartridge (CHRA): Before connecting the oil feed pipe, inject 15–20 ml of fresh engine oil directly into the CHRA oil inlet port using a syringe and rotate the shaft by hand.
  5. Crank Engine Without Ignition: Disconnect fuel injectors and crank the engine with the starter for 10-15 seconds to build oil pressure before firing up the engine.
